Remember Roadies Season 1?
Winner: Rannvijay Singha
Winner: Rannvijay Singha
Back in 2003, MTV India came up with a concept that made every youngster sit up and take notice - Roadies. At the time, there weren't as many reality TV shows, and there sure as hell weren't as many wannabes trying to be a part of reality TV shows and, so, Roadies became the cool show everyone loved and discussed with the same fervour reserved for the GoT or Stranger Things series now.
The concept of the show was simple: seven people went on a road trip on their bikes from Chennai to Chail, and did some tasks en route. There wasn't a 'winner' of the show, as such. Rannvijay Singha, whom some assume was the winner, was only the most popular contestant. The show was a huge success because it was, refreshingly for the time, very, very real.
The contestants were relatable, seemingly cool people who weren't dramatised to insane extents for TRPs. Subsequently, Roadies went on to become a huge hit. In fact, it was the first Indian format show to be syndicated abroad after Pakistan’s ARY network bought it.
